I have to admit, this year I’ve been less than the devoted American Idol fan I normally am. For that, I apologize.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about tonight’s episode. I will express my discontent upfront that no one performed the greatest movie song of all time. But Celine Dion aside, I was generally impressed with the contestants tonight. No one sucked, although some bored me.

THIS is American Idol.

THIS is Quentin Tarantino.
First, my favorite.
KRIS ALLEN, “Falling Slowly”
O.M.G. Kris’ performance of ”Falling Slowly” was stunning and absolutely flawless. Randy, you have GOT to be kidding me. Pitchy?? It was beautiful, not to mention a creative choice. I would download this. If you haven’t seen the movie Once, check it out. Utterly beautiful, just like Kris’ performance.
Danny, “Endless Love”
Wow. A bit of a cheesy song choice, and he started out a little weak. But Danny maintained control and and ultimately blew me away. He reminds me of Season 5 R&B crooner Elliot Yamin. And I’m loving him without the dorky glasses — he almost looks like a heavier Robert Downey Jr.
Lil, “The Rose”
FINALLY a decent song choice! Lovely song, lovely performance. Lovely Lil! (minus the weave.) I may be partial because we always incorporated this song into my sorority’s recruitment week, but great nonetheless. Granted, I would like to see her rough it up a little, but she made it her own with the gospel switch. I really want to like Lil, so I hope she keeps it up, but I’m afraid she might be in the bottom.
Adam, “Born to Be Wild”
As usual, Adam sounded amazing, but it wasn’t anything I haven’t heard from him yet. He knows how to perform, but I have no idea what his original songs would sound like. He’s obviously safe.
Matt, “Have You Really Ever Loved a Woman”
Pretty but forgettable. Kind of how I feel about covers of Bryan Adams’ songs in general. I think he’s in danger.
Allison, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”
Seriously? eh. I’m bored already.
Anoop, “Everything I Do, I Do It for You”
See comments on Matt. Yawn.
And what was with the judges taking turns with comments? Sounds like someone in production isn’t doing a good job with time management. Make it work, people!
Thoughts?
